Here's how this scene went:
Me: Let's go see Santa!
Carter, in a belly growly yell which is mostly for dramatic effect: NOOOOOOOOOO!
Garrett: YES!! (complete with arm pumping)
Madeline rolls her eyes. (The gig is up for her, sob, but she promises to play along. Still has to act cool.)
Me: It will be fun, Carter!
C: NOOOOOOOO!
Me: You don't have to sit on his lap, you can just stand by him. Sissy will take you!
Carter nods.
Later, meeting with Santa:
Santa: So, Madeline, what do you want this year?
M, sort of believing againg- just for a moment: The American Girl Kirsten's bed.
Santa: Ok! And Carter, what do you want?
C: A BIG AIRPLANE!
Santa: A big airplane, ok! And what about you, Garrett?
Garrett, with complete seriousness and no hesitation: A spiderman trashcan for my bedroom. That's just for me.
Seriously? That's at the very top of his list? A trashcan? What?

the fact that you can remember what your kids say, work and still run your family is soooo amazing to me!
The gig isn't quite up for mine, but he has refused to go see Santa for a photo for the past few years. His response: "We e-mailed him!" Okaaay...guess that means no need to go see him too.
Did you hear about the Santa who works in a Virginia mall and whose contract was not renewed this year? After much protest, I believe he was rehired. ANYWAY, I treasure the 3 years of photos we have with that very authentic looking guy!
We have one that is WAAAAYYYY over Santa here and another is on the verge of figuring it all out. Ry refers to him as a not being real but a "character like Disneyland has". We still go to the mall and get pictures anyway because for me, it is tradition!
garrett didn't lie to santa. i asked him that day too what he wanted most...and he promptly informed me "a Spiderman trashcan...for my room."
he gave me no other items from his list.
santa better deliver...
I sure hope Santa can come through on that trash can! Kids are so funny.
