Some parents ordered pan de muerto and calaveras de azĂșcar from special bakeries for the celebration:
pan de muerto
calaveras de azĂșcar
The students were thrilled, and the celebration, along with the studying that part of Mexican culture really gave our whole family a different perspective on how the dead are revered in Hispanic culture. Sometimes hard for us to understand, Dia De Los Muertos isn't scary or sad; it's reflective and sacred.
Carter doesn't do sacred . . . especially when his two best girls are around!

Isaac named his noodle skeleton..."F derco" which spells Frederico, of course!
Hi Sarri, thanks for the comment you left on my blog. Congratulations on beginning the adoption process! You have a beautiful family, and that looks like a pretty cool school celebration. We're in the process of *trying* to move to Corvallis, Oregon--we've wanted to forever but things just haven't worked out. We're making plans in earnest now though, and we hope to be there before spring. What area of Oregon do you live in? I have a few more pictures of the Toukoul guest house, if you'd like me to email them to you. :)
